Villa Apanemia, Kassiopi

The proximity of the villa to Kassiopi and the breathtaking views of the lovely walk either side of the bay into Kassiopi should not be under-rated as it makes the evening stroll such a pleasure. The location of apartments and villas are not always set in such a way to have a great walk in and out of town even if close to the town. The sheer peace and tranquillity experienced is better than any hour of yoga or meditation! You don't need a car at all as so much is really closeby including a few beaches (not sandy). I usually look for sand but actually the stoney beach meant not getting sand everywhere, which made a pleasant surprise and you can get excellent cheap diving plimsol sandals/ shoes for 6 euros a pair that make walking along the beach and in the sea far better! The local tavernas are amazing, especially the one opposite the beach that is right of the villa (about 6 or 7 mins down the road walking - not the restaurant but the lunch stop taverna) and Ioannis which is situated along the beach walking left from the villa. I booked this villa because there were none left in Aghios Stefanos a month ago and I had been told Kassiopi was not as quaint but having seen both, I would say the most special part of Kassiopi was that it was not in the slightest bit pretentious and mixed a few smarter bars with more cheesy ones. They all seemed so very Greek and the people so bothered to have you. We were 4 girls so it probably helped but actually, joking apart, the location was lovely for couples and families and singles - everyone seemed welcome although I would question how much life there would be for singles really looking for busy bars. Aghios Stefanos was a very charming smaller resort and yes, chic but almost had an air of knowing this, with taverna prices a bit more expensive and most of the villas were further from the village than ours to Kassiopi. The villa itself would be 5 star if only for the a fan in the lounge area and a few trendy throws on the sofa, armchairs and in the twin bedroom. I also believe you should have the choice of fans everywhere in all villas as for any asthmatics and environment loving citizens, it is much better than air conditioning. To conclude, I would not have changed my decision and I thought yet again that the hospitality from the locals on my 5th Greek visit so very warm! Deborah, the concierge, was warm, helpful and down-to-earth without being intrusive or appearing false - that is very tricky to achieve so she deserves recognition for it. Thank you Meon.

Apanemia is sited in a very family friendly spot. It is near Kassiopi with its wonderful selection of eating and drinking places. I have never heard anyone fault this area and known of many who have become truly addicted to Kassiopi's beautiful views and understated night life. The villa is exactly as it looks both in the brochure and on the internet. It is the upper villa of two buildings on the hill and the view from the roof is lovely. Like Marta Sierankowska, we found Deborah a real treasure at all times, especially when the plans we made went astray.
