Villa Granchiaia is situated in glorious countryside just outside the village of Marti in the area of Valdarno. Originally built in the second half of the 18th century as a farmhouse, then
restored in the 20th century and finally reshaped to its current condition in 2004. The countryside around the villa is typical of the lower Arno valley (the river crosses Florence and Pisa and flows to a few kilometres from the estate), with gentle wooded hillsides, olive groves and sloping plains where corn, maize, barley and sunflower grow. The house itself is reached by a short, gravelled driveway, standing in very private grounds offering views up to the nearby hillside village of Marti.
The barn building is equipped as a play room with table tennis table and seating area ? adjacent to this is a shady outdoor dining area perfect for al fresco meals. Historically owned by the Florentine Baldovinetti family La Granchiaia offers an excellent example of a traditional Tuscan farmhouse where features such as stone floors and beamed ceilings have been retained in the original condition whilst the facilities have been modernised, and many items of antique furniture have been used in the equipping of this villa.
