Meon have chosen two very different areas for their programme of villas in Crete; Chania in the west, and the regions of Aghios Nicholaos and Elounda to the east, near Heraklion. The beautiful historical town of Chania is built around the harbour, showing both Venetian and Turkish influence. Crete boasts glorious expanses of sandy beach, all backed by the White Mountains, found to the west of Chania. Apokoronas is home to many picturesque traditional hillside villages such as Vamos, Gavalohori and Plaka.
At the other end of the island, to the east of Heraklion (the capital) you will find cosmopolitan Aghios Nicholaos and nearby Elounda, which has gained a reputation in recent years for being the smartest and most exclusive resort, with a plethora of excellent hotels, and some of the most luxurious villas Crete has to offer.
Cretan cuisine is excellent and also one of the healthiest. All the traditional Greek dishes can be found but Crete also has a large selection of its own specialities, so be adventurous, order a selection of "mezes" on the menu and enjoy! Perhaps the most endearing and enduring thing about Crete is that it is also the home of "filoxenia" meaning hospitality. As a visitor you are genuinely welcome, so take up the invitation, join the locals for a glass of raki and share in the spirit of Crete.
