The southernmost of the Ionian Islands, Zante is best known for the much photographed "Shipwreck Cove" and "colourful" nightlife in some of her resorts in the south, such as Laganas. Meon's villas in Zante are a million miles away from this tourist hotspot in character and we have tried to pick villas which embody the different facets of Zante: a rural, green island with a dramatic coastline offering some of the best beaches in Greece, with dramatic cliffs, famous sunsets and unspoilt pine forests, all guaranteed to offer the most idyllic villa holidays.Zante Town is a very pretty capital town built around the bustling harbour, with colonaded arcades hiding restaurants, cafés, and lots of small, smart shops. As in most Greek towns, people watching is a favourite pastime and pavement cafés provide the ideal base for this activity!
Zante has a beautiful coastline. There are many beaches with golden sands, including the beach at Gerekas, which is affectionately known as "Turtle Beach" as this is where the Caretta Caretta turtles some in to nest. There are also some spectacular bays on the North coast which can only be reached from the sea. The Vasilikos peninsula (home to two of our Zante villas) is one of the prettiest areas on the island. Its dramatic coastal scenery, with areas of pine forest, sandy beaches and some excellent waterside tavernas are great for feasting on fresh fish and local specialities. The north west side of the island is the place to go for the famous Zante sunsets, where cliff top cafés provide the ideal spot to enjoy a cool drink and watch the sun drop into the Ionian.
There is plenty to do and see whilst on a Zante villa holiday. A waterpark in the centre of the island provides a good day out, especially if you have children in the party. There are boat trips to nearby Cephalonia, to the Blue Caves on the north coast and to Shipwreck Cove - you can even visit the mainland, just a short boat ride away and be in ancient Olympia and back in a day.
